5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 4www.information.aero Operations and customer service Service continuity sustained throughout the year –Internet infrastructure attacks in June 2004 (Google, Akamai, …) –.aero infrastructure partially affected –service remained operational thanks to robust architecture Renegotiation of outsourcing contract in Jan 2004 –Saved $100K pa, outsourcing cost now covered by cash inflow –Key operational activities not affected by the renegotiation Customer service continues to receive positive feedback –Confusion over the role of registrars remains

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 5www.information.aero Building awareness Increase in.aero marketing activity in 2004 Consistent messaging –Policy aspects/technology benefits for A/Ls and A/Ps –On line identity of the aviation community for larger and diverse communities –Consistent use of defined message and imagery Communication through print and –Newsletter –Informational collateral –Awareness campaign to register 2/3 letter codes –Advertising in relation to events

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 6www.information.aero Building awareness (cont.) Industry Events –Computaport speaker –IATA IMC May sponsor & exhibitor –Airline IT Summit June exhibitor –ACI World Conference Lisbon October sponsored speaker at Airport Information Technology Subcommittee & hosted.aero information Kiosk –NBAA Las Vegas October exhibitor plus comprehensive pre and post event awareness campaign –IATA Simplifying the Business November development workshop, possible.aero information Kiosk on site Industry events provide an opportunity to dialogue with the community members

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 7www.information.aero Progress report: activation of industry codes Negotiation with ICANN –Feb - requested permission to pre-register any code set agreed with DAC –May - permission granted for airline and airport codes only –Jul - SITA communicated its disappointment about the decision by ICANN to legislate which industry sectors can pre-register codes Campaign progress –May - activated web sites for all IATA airline and location identifiers –Jun/Jul - communications campaign –Sep - initiated to program to place links to corporate web sites Some airlines & airports acted, some remain passive Recommendation to DAC –Suggest DAC takes long term view and support the pre-registration of codes

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 8www.information.aero Progress report: flight status pilot service Pilot service disconnected in Sep User feedback –Love and want the predictability, simplicity, access via mobile –Many continued using the service after the official trial period –Expect the service as a matter of fact and a courtesy Vendor, industry, and expert feedback –Vendors believe money can be made by selling flight status data,.aero model is a threat –Airports, airlines to a some extent seem to believe the same –Internet experts recommend adjustments in naming structure and architecture Conclusions/recommendations to DAC –Passenger feedback indicates that the underlying community concept is valid but we came too early –Recommend to protect the names, open concept to developers, wait for the need to manifest itself to start registrations

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 9www.information.aero Progress report: B2B applications Engaged top Internet experts to identify opportunities The good news –The DNS technology developed since 2000 to allow.aero to fulfill its original goal and develop industry communications platform –There is a clear cost savings potential –It can increase the flexibility and allow faster adoption to changes –It can smooth the industry transition to internet-style services The challenge –.aero, is an integral part of infrastructure and cannot succeed as a “product” on its own –the success will depend on how well it can serve industry applications –It requires a very fresh look at the state of industry communications First informal consultations with airlines (Aug/Sep) provided positive feedback For full details see next presentation

5 th Dot Aero Council Meeting | Slide 10www.information.aero Summary Domain registrations alone cannot sustain the.aero initiative but have the potential to fund the underlying operational activities The underlying technology offers large potential for simplifying business communications and generating industry savings To realize the potential we must consider wider scope than.aero domain or DNS
