Invention of Papyrus The Egyptians invented paper made from the papyrus reed. This enabled people to write hieroglyphics much faster than carving in stone or painting on walls.
Egyptian Scribes The meaning of the hieroglyphic symbols were kept secret by the Egyptian scribes which led them to be viewed as powerful.
Heiroglyphic Symbols The symbols used in heiroglyphics are drawings that stand for things, objects, and sounds.

The ibis bird’s bill was long and allowed it to catch food in the muddy Nile River. To the Egyptians its bill resemble a pen and it became a symbol for thought, and the god of writing and knowledge.
