Page No. 2 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only ISS Video Overview Six video downlinks for NASA’s ISS Institutional Video Services –May be old VDS (SD) system, or HD encoders –Institutional or payload-integrated cameras Video can be captured on an institutional camera and downloaded as a file Video can also be integrated into a payload data stream

Page No. 3 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only ISS “6-pack”

Page No. 4 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Institutional Video Options for Payload Developers ISS/NISN Peering Point Video –The 6 Channels of Live ISS downlink at streaming quality. –Shared Payload and Core video –Files available through JSC dub request HOSC-Distributed Payload Video (PDSS) –One or more live streams specific to your payload, pushed to specific IP addresses at full downlink quality –Video files available through PDSS

Page No. 5 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Categories of Payload Video Shared Proprietary Restricted Deferred Release

Page No. 6 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Shared Video Available to NASA, International Partners, all Payload Developers receiving ISS/NISN Peering Point video Not Public Archived and cataloged at JSC HOSC-Distributed video is also stored at HOSC for at least 2 years. Video for payloads using only the ISS/NISN peering point is not stored in the PDSS

Page No. 7 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Proprietary Video Video has limited distribution based on Intellectual Property issues Not delivered via ISS/NISN Peering Point Not archived or cataloged at JSC Stored in PDSS in HOSC for at least 2 years Viewing limited to specified PD team, particular stations in MCC-H and POIC

Page No. 8 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Restricted Video Video has limited distribution based on astronaut privacy issues, medical information nondisclosure requirements, or ISS program sensitivities Not delivered via ISS/NISN Peering Point Archived and cataloged at JSC Stored in PDSS in HOSC for at least 2 years Viewing limited to specified PD team, particular stations in MCC-H and POIC

Page No. 9 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Deferred Release Video Not delivered via ISS/NISN Peering Point Archived and cataloged at JSC Stored in PDSS in HOSC Live viewing limited to specified PD team, particular stations in MCC-H and POIC File access is limited like Restricted video until the end of the embargo period, then is treated like Shared video

Page No. 10 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Guidance on Categories Most payload video should be Shared most of the time NASA or NASA-sponsored payloads seldom have Proprietary video A particular payload may have different categories of video at different times. This is a scheduling issue. The PIA should cover all possible categories that may be used.

Page No. 11 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Why Shared Video?

Page No. 12 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only A Note on Archiving NASA is required by law to archive all payload video if –NASA used the video for communications –NASA used the video as a data source –it was funded by NASA Archive in this case means to store for the life of the ISS program, and eventually deliver to the National Archives in a format they can read

Page No. 13 ISS_CM_019 (Rev 09/2011) Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Questions for PDs Do you need to see shared video content from ISS? Does your payload sometimes require one or more of the institutional video downlink channels? How many channels (1-6) will be the most required at one time? For each channel, which classifications may apply?

Encoded at 1.5 Mbps on the NASA WAN, distributed as multicast Wowza Media Server in Huntsville repackages multicast to provide unicast feeds to payload community customer who can’t receive the multicast Provides situational awareness and, for PDs not using HOSC Distributed Payload Video, primary payload video viewing
