Pillowcase Fabric Arts I

Lay out pillowcase body (with the pinch side facing up). Pin the band to the top part of the body. Face sides together. PIN

Sewing band to body Sew band to the body with a straight stitch, following the number 15 (make sure you see the 5 not the 1) Make sure machine is set at straight stitch

Zig Zag Make sure left of the presser foot is next to straight stitch Trim threads next to fabric

Trim & Iron Trim next to zig zag stitch Iron seam towards the band Iron towards band

Match seams & Pin Put face sides together and match seams. Put one pin in seam first then pin from seam outward. Pin all the way from top of the band to bottom of the body. Then pin the bottom of the pillowcase. Match seams Pin bottom Pin side

Sewing Side & Bottom Straight stitch from bottom to top making sure that folded seam stays facing the band. Make sure you see the 5 not the 1. Continue to sew the bottom the same way. Zig zag to the left of the straight stitch and trim threads next to fabric. Iron to one side

Seams Make sure your seams match up Inside seams of band and body

Fold 1/2” Using a hem gauge, starting at the seam, fold ¼” to the inside. Pins should look like the picture. Iron in between pins.

Fold Band Fold band so that it’s just barely covering the stitching line. Re-pin through all layers.

Sewing Seam Pull front door off Sew on face side where plastic and metal meet. Start sewing at the seam!

Now you are ready to embroider!
