Melanoma Skin Safety

Melanoma  A form of cancer that is found on your skin, eyes, and intestines  It starts and looks like a mole.  Everyone has a mole. Not all moles are melanoma!!!

Normal Moles  Round  Brown  Raised  Symmetrical (circular)  Small (smaller than an eraser on your pencil)  Defined borders

Famous Normal Moles

Normal Moles continued  It is normal for a mole to appear at puberty.  An already existing mole can grow or change colors during puberty as well.

Moles that are NOT normal  A - Asymmetry  B - Borders (irregular)  C - Color  D - Diameter  E - Elevated above the skin surface  F - Firm to the touch  G - Growing

Always use your sunscreen!! EWW!! Tan is NOT beautiful!!

Let’s change statistics!  One in five Americans will get skin cancer because they don’t know how to protect themselves. We can lower that statistic by:  applying sunscreen  staying out of the sun during peak hours  Wear a hat  Avoid tanning beds
