Doyle attended the University of Edinburgh in order to study medicine. He met many other famous writers there, including James Barrie and Robert Louis Stevenson. Biography

The man who most impressed him, however, was Dr. Joseph Bell. The doctor was a master at observation, logic, deduction, and diagnosis. All these qualities were later found in the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. Biography
