ANTI BULLYING FORUM THIS WEEK DATE: 3 RD NOVEMBER 2014

1.Liam has a very quiet voice. The others in his class always shout ‘Speak up’ whenever he answers a question in class. 2.A group of year 7 boys are playing football on the field. Tyrone misses an ‘easy’ goal, and two other boys call him ‘gay’. 3.Ian’s bag is thrown down the stairs by a group of older boys. This happens at least three times a week. 4.Emily receives a text every day which insults her mother. She doesn’t know who it is from. 5.Every time Monisha walks past a group of older girls they shout a racist term and hold their nose, saying she smells of curry. 6.Majid is regularly called ‘spastic’ by a group of people in his year because he has a minor deformity of his foot. Majid says he thinks it’s funny. 7.Tom and Leo get involved in a fight about the theft of Leo’s watch. Leo breaks Tom’s nose. 8.Fiona is in Year 10. She has just ‘come out’ as a lesbian. Every PE lesson the rest of the girls refuse to get changed near her. The teacher tells Fiona to change in the toilets. 9.John told his friend that he is a Christian and goes to Church regularly. His friend laughed at him and said he was wasting his time.

According to the NSPCC…  Bullying is behaviour that hurts someone else – such as name calling, hitting, pushing, spreading rumours, threatening or undermining someone.  It can happen anywhere – at school, at home or online. It’s usually repeated over a long period of time and can hurt a child both physically and emotionally.  Bullying that happens online, using social networks and mobile phones, is often called cyberbullying. A child can feel like there’s no escape because it can happen wherever they are, at any time of day or night.

 Actionwork is running an exciting competition called ‘Let’s Stop Bullying For All”.  You can design a gadget, draw a picture, write a story, song or poem, take a photo, shoot a film or documentary. Entries can be fun, entertaining, serious, creative, colourful, futuristic but must be your own work.  Free entry  First prize - £300 – (£150 to winner & £150 to school) Second prize - £75 5 runners up – prized of £20  All winners, runners up and shortlisted entries will be displayed in an online gallery.  Closing date – 12 th December 2014  See Miss Dolton for more information and entry form
