Tell a story about your person (a few sentences). Give a quotation by or about your person and tie it into your introduction (a few sentences).

CONCLUSION What’s the point?  Wrap up what you have written  Summarize the main points  Restate important information How do I write it?  Use different words to describe what you have already written about your main points.  You could include a quotation by or about your person. Tie the quotation into the text; you can’t just leave it hanging.  Leave your reader with a statement that will stick with him or her. DO NOT INTRODUCE NEW MATERIAL IN THE CONCLUSION OR WRITE “THE END”!

EXAMPLE Introduction: The fashion designer’s world is an exciting one, filled with challenge, beauty, and opportunity. Few other professions offer such fine opportunities for creativity and imagination. Few exert such a strong influence on social life. In prestige, skill, and general fashion influence, Ralph Lauren is one of the foremost contemporary designers. Conclusion: Ralph Lauren clearly serves as a model of the excitement and responsibility of the world of the fashion designer. Daring in his exploration of the possibilities inherent in fabric, color, and line, he affects the lives of people throughout the world by the collections he shows each season.

EXAMPLE Introduction: “Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all” (George Washington). This quotation describes George Washington’s attitude toward maintaining a successful government. With his guidance, the United States was able to flourish and to grow into the nation it is today. Because of his excellent leadership skills, George Washington helped to create a new country, took responsible risks to innovate winning a war, and illuminated a new country that has become a world power. Conclusion: All in all, with George Washington’s direction, a new country rose from the ashes of a revolution and became an example of democracy and freedom. Because of Washington’s skills in commanding an army, he was able to guide his soldiers to victory over a stronger opponent. His lasting legacy of character and service have continued to inspire Americans to pursue truth and justice in an effort to create a government that strives to help those who are suffering so that all may live in peace.
