ANCIENT CHINA

GEOGRAPHY OF CHINA China is isolated by many natural barriers. For hundreds of years, the Chinese didn't realize other civilizations existed outside of China.

China's elevation increases as you go west. Going from low sea level, to plateaus, to some of the highest mountains in the world

Label the main rivers on your map

The floods destroy land And homes and kill Many people. Controlling The water is a huge issue

China's rivers link China with the eastern part of the country

CLIMATE Northeast: Cold and dry climate Rivers frozen half the Year Northwest: Deserts are dry and arid Southeast: Wettest region with a tropical climate. Monsoons can bring 250" of rain a year Southwest: Dry plateaus

AGRICULTURE Very little usable farm land Settled along the rivers because it's one of the only fertile areas Intensive agriculture Cut flat fields into hillsides to have more land for rice paddies (terracing)

FARMING AND DIET Farmers grew rice and wheat They fished and hunted with bows and arrows Domesticated animals such as pigs and sheep
