6 EEA and Norway grants - background Economic crisis, growing unemployment, aging populations and strained welfare budgets. Threat of increasing socio-economic differences within and between European nations. Economic growth will need innovation, research and increased educational competence to provide the necessary edge of competetiveness. EU educational policies including our program are geared towards this end.

Examples of higher education and research cooperation in the present period Some examples: - courses on scientific methods/theory developed through research in specialized fields for both bachelor and master students and innovative features related to research introduced in the content of study courses - designed interdisciplinary course modules based on the novel data resources created in the course of research project - developed optional new modules by research institutions based on their research interests that bachelor and master students participate in - involved PhD, master and bachelor students in research projects by working on their assignments/thesis on related research topics, contributing to data obtaining process in research projects, analysis of results, writing of publications as part of research thesis - involved academic staff in research project activities to facilitate knowledge-transfer and theoretical and practical training in development and application of advanced methods that can be applied in teaching activities 16
