It was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945 It involved many European military forces, forming two alliances:  The Allies  The Axis Powers It was the most widespread war in history and it was linked to the terror of the Holocaust Finally the Allies won the War and an important Treaty was signed for the horrors of this war not to be repeated VS

The UK was one the victors on World War II Uk gave the independence to India in 1947 Uk become a founder member on the UN and helped to form NATO in 1949 Prosperity retuned to UK in the 1950s London became a world center of finance and culture. The nation was not longer a superpower after the cost of World War II The actual queen Elisabeth II was crowned in 1953

More than 4 million houses were destroyed Many products were rationed (pooverty) Britain for the first time became a debtor nation with some many countries (USA and Canada helped Uk to solve the debts). Unemployment raised 2.3 million people. On the political scene Churchill was swept out of politics. and the Labour Party raised to power. In 1948 some plans were taken to increase the welfare system of the country Finally, in 1950 the economy improved

During the World War II there was a lot of rationing along the population Many men went to fight and the women had to work in factories to replace them and help the country Huge grow in munition and aircraft industries Massive government debts accumulated, especially to America The bombing of houses caused that the construction of new buildings became a priority. The Bretton Woods Conference created an International Monetary Fund to try to prevent another world economic depression

After the War ended, the employment of womwn led the UK to the improving of living standard. There was a fall in birth rate More and more families started to own cars New houses were bought and people went more abroad on holidays to places like Italy,Spain and France The increase of TV after the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 made people be connected worldwide Aristocracy lost some privileges and equality started to increase
