Lesson 3 Phi Sigma Rho Organization Objectives To learn and understand how the national sorority functions and to learn Robert’s Rules of Order, used to conduct all meetings

National Council Meets at least twice annually –Between regular meetings, members review and implement the affairs of the sorority through frequent correspondence and communication Has general supervision, direction and advisory powers of the sorority at all times Elected positions of nine alumnae Positions are two year terms Executive Director is only paid position

National Council National President – Allison Lenhoff National Vice President of Standards – Becky Frye National Vice President of Communication – Katie Cook National Vice President of Finance – Christine MacLaren National Vice President of Collegiate Affairs – Alex Caliguire National Vice President of Alumnae Affairs – Jennifer Lee National Vice President of Expansion – Leanne Smith National Vice President of Programming – Melissa Barber National Vice President of Publications – Sara Newman

National Convention Overall legislative body of the sorority Comprised of delegates from each active chapter and alumnae organization and the members of National Council Meets every two years to conduct sorority business Duties and Responsibilities –Final Court of Appeals on the interpretation of the Constitution, Ritual, Bylaws and Policies –Can expel, suspend or reinstate the charter of a chapter –Elects national council members

Voting at National Convention Entire National Council receives one vote Active chapters receive two votes Alumnae organizations receive one vote

National Awards Rashmi Khanna Scholarship Award –Chapter that shows greatest overall improvement in grade point average for the year Abby McDonald Spirit Award –Chapter that participates in the most significant university social activities throughout the year Christine Mooney Service Award –Chapter with the highest number of service hours per sister Senior Award –Senior who has best exemplified good character, given distinguished service to Phi Sigma Rho and whose achievements in varied fields of student activity have brought honor and prestige to the name of Phi Sigma Rho

National Awards Lifetime Achievement Award –Alumnae or honorary member of the sorority whose achievements in their field of endeavor have brought honor and prestige to the name of Phi Sigma Rho Chapter Advisor Award –An outstanding alumnae advisor, faculty advisor, or any other person serving as an advising capacity of an active chapter Alumna Officer Award –Outstanding alumnae member serving as an officer of an alumnae organization

National Awards President’s Commendation –Active, alumnae or honorary members who perform outstanding service to the sorority, active chapter, or to non-members in special circumstances Rising to Excellence Award –Active chapters that meet a level of excellence as defined in the “Rising to Excellence” procedures See page 26 for more information regarding the national awards

Regional Field Director Voluntary position Oversees active chapters in her region Reports to the National Vice President of Collegiate Affairs Required to make a visit to her assigned chapters annually

Public Service Project Each active chapter must perform at least two service events per academic year Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. –Adopted in 1998 as sorority-wide service project American Cancer Society –Many sisters have been impacted by cancer, leading to the additional service project

Phi Sigma Rho Foundation Federally recognized as a non-profit organization Started in 2005 Mission –To promote social responsibility, personal integrity and lifelong enrichment by providing professional, educational, philanthropic, and leadership development opportunities for the members and friends of Phi Sigma Rho Sorority.

Phi Sigma Rho Foundation Responsibilities –Scholarships awarded –LEAP (Leadership Education and Programming) conference to enhance life skills See page 30 for more information regarding the Phi Sigma Rho Foundation
