Prince Dies

Legendary singer Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, died Thursday after he was found unresponsive in an elevator at his studios in Minnesota. Questions remain as to what killed him. An autopsy will be conducted Friday. Paramedics tried to perform CPR but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m., less than 30 minutes after sheriff's deputies responded to a medical call at the scene. An outpouring of grief followed as fans paid tribute to the singer who masterfully blended rock, R&B, jazz, funk and pop. Prince's music transcended genres and generations. He defined the sound of the '80s with songs such as "Purple Rain," and defied the music industry in a fight for creative freedom. "As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all. Funk. R&B. Rock and roll. He was a virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader and an electrifying performer," U.S. President Barack Obama said in a statement. " 'A strong spirit transcends rules,' Prince once said -- and nobody's spirit was stronger, bolder, or more creative.” The precise number of instruments he was capable of playing isn’t exactly known, however on his debut album, he was credited with having played 27 instruments. Throughout his career, Prince sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year of his eligibility. Rolling Stone ranked Prince at number 27 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

In Other News A 16-year-old girl died Thursday after fighting with other girls in a bathroom at Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, Delaware. The student was badly injured and transported by helicopter to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, where she died. The fight broke out about 8:15 a.m. as classes started, in a bathroom on the main floor of the school, principal Stanley Spoor said at a news conference. He didn't say what caused the fight. Two students are being questioned by Wilmington police, he said. Wilmington Police Chief Bobby Cunningham said it's not believed a weapon was used. It was announced this week by Treasury Secretary Jack Lew that Harriet Tubman would replace seventh president Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Michael Strahan will be leaving the talk show, "Live with Kelly and Michael," due to a new full-time role on "Good Morning America.” "GMA" is the flagship morning show of ABC, earning hundreds of millions of dollars each year for its parent company Disney. "Live" is a syndicated talk show that follows "GMA" in most markets. It is produced by ABC's local station in New York and distributed by another division of ABC. The Eagles acquired the Cleveland Browns' pick with a blockbuster trade. To make this deal, the Eagles sent five draft picks to the Browns: the No. 8 pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in Cleveland also sends a fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles.
