GIRFEC PRACTICE MODEL

5 GIRFEC QUESTIONS – Practical Exercise What is getting in the way of this child, or young person’s wellbeing? Do I have all the information I need to help this child or young person? What can I do now to help this child or young person? What can my agency do to help this child or young person? What additional help – if any – may be needed from others?

GIRFEC Video

Wellbeing Wellbeing is summed up in eight words that describe different aspects of what it means when things are going well for a child or young person – whether they are ‘safe’; ‘healthy’; ‘achieving’; ‘nurtured’; ‘active’; ‘respected’; ‘responsible’ and ‘included’. The words can be used to find out where a child’s strengths lie and also – if there are concerns – to see where some help or support might be needed. (Scottish Government)

Please consider the following: Think..... Of a time when you had a wellbeing concern for a child or young person – what was the concern and how did you follow this up? Consider the 5 GIRFEC questions in relation to this child or young person Pair.... Discuss this with those sitting next to you Share... Share this with a wider group Task
