Sustainability What is meant by the term sustainability? “Using resources in a manner which allows them to be available for future generations” sustainability explained

A sustainable lifestyle is one that only requires one planet and does not use up all the resources If everyone lived like we do, in the UK, it would need three planets to support the world’s population – this is clearly not sustainable!!

1.The environment should be preserved 2.Resources need to be kept for future generations 3.There should be a better balance between Developed and Developing countries and their use of resources 17% of the population consume 80% of the world's resources. Aims of sustainability…

Three Pillars of Sustainability

ecologicalfootprint What do we mean by the term Carbon Footprint and why is it important for sustainability? carbon family - twig science The amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community.

Sustainable lifestyle The key ways to lead a sustainable lifestyle are the Three R’s REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE four care instructions

Sustainability and Us! Sustainability HOUSING ENERGY TRANSPORTWATER/FOOD WASTEENVIRONMENT Industry

The more Carbon we burn and release into the atmosphere as Carbon Dioxide the warmer the climate will become and with that a host of problems eg ??????

So why is it important to reduce our footprints? The greenhouse effect – the world is getting increasingly hotter, this has huge knock on effects…… Global warming could melt the world's ice caps and glaciers. Over the next hundred years sea levels could rise by between 10 cm and 90 cm - making many coastal areas uninhabitable. Global warming could also affect the weather patterns, leading to more droughts, flooding and extreme weather, such as hurricanes. Some argue that the UK climate is changing as a result of global warming, with the possibility of more frequent floods, water shortages, and extreme weather conditions.
