Section 4: Treating Mental Disorders Objectives: -List reasons that might prevent a person from seeking help for a mental disorder. -Identify four types of mental health professionals. -Describe some general types of treatment for mental disorders.

Section 4: Treating Mental Disorders Locating Community Resources: -Each year, about 20% of Americans experience the symptoms of a mental disorder. -The majority of these people do not seek help. -Sometimes people don’t recognize the signs of a mental disorder or they may have been told that, with will power alone, they can overcome the problem. Or they may not know where to go for help.

Section 4: Treating Mental Disorders 1 st step- recognizing the need for help. -do not ignore the warning signs of mental disorders. -treat mental disorders the way you would treat a physical illness -try to show your problems with an adult you trust
