“Towards Green and Smart Mobility in Malaysia – BRT Sunway” Presented By: Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff Prasarana Malaysia Berhad

PRASARANA MALAYSIA BERHAD Incorporated in 1998 by the Ministry of Finance, the Government-Owned Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) was set up to facilitate, undertake and expedite public infrastructure projects. Prasarana operates the LRT, Monorail in Kuala Lumpur and city buses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kuantan.

Prasarana Group Business Structure Development Property and Commercial Project Operations Bus Rail Consultancy Engineering Management Services City Bus LRT BRT Monorail

Background: Public Transport in Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley Today Population in the Klang Valley to grow from the current 6 million to 10 million in 2030 If every single trip is on private transport, Klang Valley roads will be gridlocked The Solution 40% PT Modal Share in 2030 The only solution is public transport It can carry many people efficiently It uses less space to carry the same number of people

What is BRT? Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a high performance and cost effective rubber-tyre transit by way of giving priority to buses where public transport demand is high: It is fast, reliable, convenient, affordable and distinct from “regular” bus services. A flexible but integrated package of facilities, systems and vehicle options tailored to local conditions and constraints. In many cities, it is the centerpiece of a urban re-development program.

Why we need BRT? Flexible Design, i.e. can be at-grade and/or elevated. Minimal operating complexities compared to Rail Systems. Lower capital and operating cost than Rail. Can be the primary or secondary PT corridors. Can be implemented in stages.
