Different Kinds of Microscopes

12/16/14 Evidence #2: Virtual Microscope Lab Observations: Key Question: Explain how to use and focus a microscope. Initial Thoughts:

Today’s Goal To learn the parts of a microscope and how to use and focus a microscope using a virtual simulation. Log on to your computer and go to swift  documents  “Virtual Microscope Lab” or open your and click on the link I sent you. Go to the website on instructions: /

Analysis Questions 1.How do you calculate the total magnification of the microscope? 2.A) Describe how the microscope CHANGES the position of the letter “e”. B) In what direction does the slide appear to move (through the microscope) when you move it to the left? 3.Compare the drawing of the onion root tip and the cheek smear. How are the cells different?

Summary In a well developed paragraph: –What did you think before about the correct way to use a microscope? (look back at your initial thoughts) –What did you learn the correct way to use a microscope? Be specific! (look back at your evidence section). –What evidence do you have that you learned this? –Further Thoughts Make sure this is thoughtful and thorough.

Reflection Create a warning label to make sure the microscope does not get damaged.
