Network Drives u A Brief Description u How to Connect Network Drives

Network Drives u Network drives are connections on a user’s machine to a specific directory on a fileserver in our computer room. u \\GEN1\APPS connects to the server “GEN1” and to its directory “APPS.”

Network Drives (cont.) u Occasionally it is necessary to connect to an additional network drive. u This depends mostly on individual needs. u Access to shared directories is user-specific. For access to a shared directory, call Jim for permission and then complete the following steps.

Mapping Network Drives u Click on Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. u Click on Tools, then Map Network Drive. u Choose a letter for the drive (any drive letter that is unoccupied is acceptable.) u Enter the path if you know it. u If the path is unknown, Browse the choices shown to find the appropriate drive.

Mapping Network Drives (cont.) u If you wish to connect to this drive every time you log on, select “Reconnect at logon.” If you will only be using it this one time, do not select that option. u Click ok.
