Magik Smoke School of Tarot The Art of Tarot Day 2

The Major Arcana ( Secrets ) of the Tarot cards consist of twenty-two cards. They represent the spiritual journey we are all traveling, and depict different stages and important life lessons. THE FOOL Element: Air. Planet: Uranus. Zodiac: Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) Upright: Beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a free spirit Reversed: Naivety, foolishness, recklessness, risk-taking THE MAGICIAN Element: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire Planet: Mercury Zodiac: Virgo (August 23 - September 22) Upright: Confidence, p otential, power, skill, action, resourcefulness Reversed: Trickery, m anipulation, poor planning, latent talents

THE FOOL Upright: Beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a free spirit Look at the picture and imagine yourself there on the cliff. The sun illuminates your surroundings and your head is tilted back as you take in the fresh air. There isn’t a care in the world. You are beginning your journey. You have plucked a flower, packed your snack pack, and your dog plays at your side, as you step out on your new adventure. Think about how the image makes you feel. What meanings could you apply to this card? In a Tarot reading, the Fool can represent a new journey or new beginning in a new direction in life. It can represent unplanned and exciting new directions. Sometimes it can tell us to take risks and let go. The Fool can tell us to follow our heart, even when it seems foolish. Reversed: Naivety, foolishness, recklessness, risk-taking When reversed, the fool says be careful. You are at risk. You didn’t plan for this or maybe you need to plan events before falling into disaster. Sometimes it is okay to take risks, but when reversed, it tells us this might not be a risk worth taking. In this position everything is turned upside down, making us realize how far we could fall. Think about how the image makes you feel when reversed.

THE MAGICIAN Upright: Confidence, p otential, power, skill, action, resourcefulness The Magician stands in his garden holding an instrument towards the sky to collect electricity from the universe, and points his free hand towards the ground. He uses his body as a conductor for unleashed energy, as he channels the power into the earth and everything he touches or creates. He stands before his table decorated with his pentacles (material and worldly things), his cups (emotions), his swords (intellect), and his wands (creativity and actions). The magician can charge these items fully, making him a powerful master with confidence and unleashed potential. The symbol of infinity crowns his head. How does the Magician make you feel? What meanings could you personally apply to this image? Reversed: Trickery, m anipulation, poor planning, latent talents When reversed, the Magician can be a warning about trickery, and caution us before placing trust in another. He can tell us that we are lacking confidence in a situation, and advise us to believe in the powers we possess. Sometimes the Magician tells us to take inventory of our talents and abilities, and apply ourselves to the things which we have an aptitude to be successful. Be warned that in this position deceit is a bitter possibility.
