VASTETHNIC China is VAST and has many ETHNIC groups, not all of whom get along with one another.

1)HAN ETHNIC EASTERN 20%1) The HAN Chinese are by far the majority in China and are the world’s largest ETHNIC group, and have long dominated East Asian culture. They mainly live in EASTERN China and represent 20% of the world’s population.

2) 2) China’s Minority Ethnic Groups Manchu (10.6 million), Miao (8.9 million), UYGHURUYGHUR (8.3 million),(8.3 million), Yi (7.7 million), MONGOLMONGOL (5.8 million),(5.8 million), TIBETANTIBETAN (5.4 million),(5.4 million), Dong (2.9 million), Yao (2.6 million), Korean (1.9 million), Hani (1.4 million), Kazakh (1.2 million), Li (1.2 million), Dai (1.1 million).

3) UYGHURSMUSLIMS CULTURALLYCENTRAL3) UYGHURS are MUSLIMS who do not speak the same language as Han Chinese and are CULTURALLY more like their CENTRAL Asian neighbors.

4) AUTONOMY4) Uyghurs have long resisted Communism, and now many seek AUTONOMY (right to self- govern) from the Communist Beijing Government.

5) ATTACKED HAN5) As more and more Han Chinese move for economic opportunity to sparsely populated Western China, some Uyghurs have ATTACKED HAN Chinese with Syringe Needles, hoping to scare them away from their Western Chinese home. RIOTSThis has also caused RIOTS Between the Han Chinese & Uyghur Muslims.

6)19506) China invaded Tibet in 1950 LANGUAGE CUSTOMS BUDDHISM.Tibetans speak a different LANGUAGE and have different CUSTOMS from the Han Chinese, and practice a unique form of BUDDHISM.

7)ISOLATED POOR. 7) Overall Tibet is largely ISOLATED because of their extremely high elevation. They have little industry or agriculture, so Tibet remains very POOR.

8) DALAI LAMA, EXILE,8) Tibet’s spiritual leader, the DALAI LAMA, has been in EXILE, trying to promote Tibet’s autonomy from China

9) MIGRATE DEMONSTRATIONS & RIOTS9) Han Chinese are beginning to MIGRATE to Tibet, changing the language, culture, and religion there and creating a backlash of DEMONSTRATIONS & RIOTS from many Tibetans.

10) WARRIORS CONQUERED HORSEBACK10) Today’s Mongols are the descendants of the Mongol WARRIORS who once CONQUERED much of Asia and Europe on HORSEBACK

11) YURT11) Many Mongols continue to live in a shelter called a YURT that can be packed up and moved.

12) NOMADIC.12) Mongols continue to have a special relationship with horses, and many continue to be NOMADIC.
