History of Culture 1929: The League of Latino American Citizens was formed. 1945: Separate Mexican schools are unconstitutional. 1965: Mexican-Americans and Spanish-speaking people from Latin America became identified as an ethnic group 1968: Latino students in Los Angeles, California walked out of their classrooms to protest unsatisfactory actions in school. 1974: Equal Educational Opportunity Act is passed. Parent/Community Involvement Benefits the academic success of students Open line of communication between teachers and families. Parent/ teacher conferences. School activities (invite families to attend) Provide outside (community) recourses to families who are in need. Encourage parents participation in school activities and events.
