Flute Care By Michelle Hoff

Flute Care  Brush your teeth or rinse out your mouth before you play.  Wipe off finger prints after you play with a clean, lint free cloth  Wipe off mouthpiece with rubbing alcohol if you have been sick. Do not use water or soap on any part of your instrument.  Dust between the keys with a dry paintbrush

Swabbing  Make sure to swab thoroughly every time you play your instrument. Moisture will ruin the pads.  Frequent swabbing also prevents sticky keys.  Use a handkerchief to swab your instrument. It should be washed at least once per month.

Case Care  Vacuum out your case once per month to remove all dust.  Make sure to tie your swab around your flute case to help prevent accidental opening of latches.

Inspection  Look over your flute every time you practice.  Look for any springs that are sticking out or screws that are not in all the way. Show your teacher any loose screws, do not tighten them yourself.  If you see any problems, bring your instrument to your teacher. Do not try to fix your flute yourself.
