Presentation transcript:

HORNET GEAR Phelps High School Student Store

MISSION  To start a school store that will provide Hornet merchandise that is unavailable to students at Walmart or unless by special order on the Internet or through small local businesses

NEED  We need to build school pride  Many students are not able to purchase Hornet merchandise unless specially ordered at local businesses, and these orders can take days or weeks to get

HOW  Our first step in starting the school store was to purchase the vinyl cutter so we can customize merchandise  We used funds provided by the school to buy basic products (cups, key chains, etc) that we customized by using stickers made with the vinyl cutter

BACKGROUND  Why the need for school pride?  We have been without a football field and baseball/softball fields for 5 years and school pride and support have suffered  Neither Walmart in Pike County carries Hornet merchandise like they do for all other schools in our county  Many of our students cannot go to local businesses to order/pick up merchandise  Orders are not readily available to them and can take days or weeks to get what you have ordered

BACKGROUND CONTINUED…..  How will this help build school pride?  Students can buy items for pep rallies and for “class wars”  Students will want to have items that their friends have  Why will people purchase from us?  Having Hornet items that the students can purchase here at school  Items that are immediately available = no wait time  Items that are affordable = value  Items that can be customized  Specials can be offered

WORKING TOGETHER  Building a business is not an easy task. It requires:  Teamwork  Willingness to compromise  Bringing ideas to the table  Doing your part  Dedication  Giving your all  Not giving up when something doesn’t work the first time  Ingenuity  Being creative  New product ideas  Sales pitch

LEARNING THE ROPES  Ask and you shall receive  Student surveys to determine:  Product types  Prices

LEARNING THE ROPES  Keep an eye on your sales  To help determine what products sell best  To help determine what types of products you need to push or put on sale  Profits! Profits! Profits!

ADVERTISEMENT  Table at lunch  Advertise sales with flyers  Use pep rallies and games to advertise products  Offer specials  Get students to promote your products

WORKING THE STORE  Student workers during lunch and break  We will have a merchandise table set up before pep rallies and at the ticket gate at home games

IS IT WORKING?  Since we have had a late start to our business, we cannot determine what our profits are at this time  School pride is building and an interest in the products we offer is growing

THE FUTURE  Working together with Shooting Star Merchandise, a company built through our student entrepreneurs at Phelps High School  They can provide some of their own merchandise for us to sell  We will buy the merchandise at a discounted price and sell for a profit
