Presentation transcript:

The video “We found love – by Rihanna” portrays the stereotypical view of “young love” as it shows many shots of the couple kissing and getting physical throughout the duration of the video. Although it also shows the viewers a dark side of love showing the abuse of drugs. The video speed is very fast paced cutting between shots every two to three seconds representing the pace of the song. A large majority of the shots seem to be handheld as they don’t seem to be focused and slightly of balance in some shots. Pan is also used at strange angles and almost look like they’ve been recorded for a friends point of view. I think that the director has decided to create the video in this way to make the viewers feel a personal touch and as if they are going through the same emotions as the character (Rihanna.

The video begins with a monologue from a British girl who narrates the opening clips talking about the ups and downs of love. During the girls speech, the video has close ups of two characters this is done to show the facial expression of the two. It starts with a very unglamorous shot of the couple sitting in a bath fully clothed, the female (Rihanna) has make up running down her face highlighting she has been crying, and that this video has a real meaning behind it. The narration then stops and the music starts, with several short fast shots. This particular clip shows the effect motion tracking. This effect is used to show the couple and how fast time has past and they are unaware because they are so Inlove nd cant literally live without each other.

In these two shots extreme close up is used. Viewers are shown in the left picture the couple taking drugs and on the right picture the effects of the drugs and they are now high. We may shock some viewers to see Rihanna (the artist) to be portrayed in this way. Here a medium shot is used of the couple kissing. This then quickly becomes a long shot of the couple and now (Rihanna) is in his arms. Viewers are then again shown another clip of pills and are then clear that this video that the couple are heavily involved in drugs.

In these three clips, extreme close ups are used at very fast past of the two characters bodies and assets to show the couple leading up to having sex. Notice this clip happens after the drug taking, maybe showing the audience the side effects of drug abuse and not being aware of what you're doing. Here this clip is used in the chorus as the music has sped up, and the clips are shorter. A high angle is used here to portray a feeling of the two characters being swallowed up by their setting and are lost in the moment.

In these four shots close up’s are used to show facial expressions and how everything has turned from good to bad for the couple. In the first two shots, it shows how the two have lost money due to gambling it away. In the third it’s a close up of the males facial expression, showing he's angry and frustrated. The fourth clip shows the flashing lights of a police car, highlighting that the couple have got in trouble with the law. Everything from then on in the video goes downhill. In the final shot, a high angle is used of Rihanna to show her as smaller and less significant and completely destroyed by love.
