Book Talk Mockingjay Michael Porter

Summary The Capitol is the brutal ruling class of Panem, a country that rose from the ruins of North America. Sick of their brutality, the thirteen districts of Panem rebelled against the Capitol. The Capitol defeated twelve of them, and destroyed the thirteenth. To punish the districts, every year the Capitol takes one boy and one girl from each district and forces them to fight to death in the Hunger Games.

Summary continued The thirteen districts are now in a full-out war with the Capitol. After the disastrous events surrounding the 75 th Hunger Games, Katniss is spirited away to district 13, the district previously believed to have been destroyed. While there, Katniss learns that she is the face of the rebellion. She also learns that Peeta, her fellow district 12 tribute, is now the face of the anti-war movement. After a daring rescue attempt, Peeta and several other tributes are returned to 13. However, Peeta attempts to strangle Katniss, as he has been hijacked by the Capitol to believe Katniss is a monster. Desperate to get away from 13, Katniss ventures to District 2, where Capitol-loyal forces are fighting against the rebels. After they blow up the Nut, the Capitol’s mountain bunker, a man shoots Katniss, and she is sent to a rehabilitation center in 13. She and Johanna, a fellow tribute, work hard to become actual soldiers and fight. After several months, Katniss is sent to a special team that films them attacking and beating Capitol forces. After an accident, Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Finnick, and their team are trapped in the Capitol. They then embark on a mission to kill President Snow. Several team members are killed, but Katniss, Peeta, and Gale survive. Rebel forces breach the city, and chaos ensures. Then the Rebels drop fire-bombs on the Capitol and kill civilians. Katniss is caught in the blast. Several Weeks later, Katniss has recovered, and she is going to execute President Snow. She doesn’t do it, and she goes back to District 12.
