Internship Experience Mike Rowe Fox Chapel Area School District

Improving Student Learning Math Study Review of Math Study Team recommendations Formulated a response to the recommendations Presented recommendations to the School Board District Shift from IST to RTI Implemented a shift from an IST model of student interventions to an RTI model. Involved a complete change in culture.

Professional Development Professional development activities were conducted in a series of full-day and half-day sessions. The main focus was differentiated instruction. Other inservices focused on the shift from IST to RTI and scoring student writing.

Assessing Student Progress Student progress was assessed in the area of math for grades 5, 8, and 11. PSSA and PVAAS data was used to chart progress from 2002-2008. Data was disaggregated for all students, economically disadvantaged students, and IEP students.

Evaluation of the Guidance Program Met with elementary, middle school, and high school guidance counselors to learn about the K-12 guidance program. Met with students and parents to get their perspective on the high school guidance program. Reviewed Alumni Survey information. Summarized Olweus Bully Prevention Program.

Construction Projects Examined how the Superintendent uses enrollments, enrollment projections, and enrollment trends to plan for construction projects. Examined how the Superintendent addresses on-going maintenance and building upkeep as well as long-term building projects.

Relations with Community Agencies All of Us Cares - Preventing youth crime and substance abuse. Fox Chapel Area Association for Gifted Education - Advocating for gifted students and their education.

Evaluating Multicultural Concepts Chaired the Religion in Schools Policy Review Committee. Met with administrators to discuss how multicultural issues are handled in their schools. Met with diverse group of parents to discuss diversity issues in our schools.

School Board Relations Worked with Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to learn about School Board relations. Attended School Board meetings from two different school districts.

District Budget Worked with the District Business Manager, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent to learn about all aspects of budget preparation and communication with the public.
