Clean water is a fundamental human right (10 facts, 2009) (Kuepper, 2009)

 1 in 8 people  Wasting time and energy  5,000 children die every day  2.6 gallons of water/day compared to 75 gallons/day (Water woes, n.d.), (Statistics, 2011) (Water aid, 2012), (Drop, 2011)

 40% of the world’s population dispose of their waste unsafely, in public places  Girls drop out of school  Sewage levels have quadrupled since (Water woes, n.d.) (Kuepper, 2009)

 Deaths can be reduced by 65%  Teach the people personal hygiene habits (WaterAid, 2012)

 Unsafe water and poor sanitation cause disease  The weakest members of a community are most vulnerable (WaterAid, 2012)

The people must be involved from beginning to end with implementing their own solutions. (Corporate responsibility, 2010) (WaterAid, 2012)

 Dig new wells or repair old ones  Hermetically seal them  Educate the community (WaterAid, 2012)

 Uses no electricity  Treats the sewage rather than just store it  Pathogen-free in 28 days (Drop in the Bucket, 2011)

 Utilize rainwater where viable  Use hand pumps and gravity drainage systems  Make the system fit the geographic and climate needs (Drop in the Bucket, 2011) (WaterAid, 2012)

 Base projects on community needs, made appropriate to the environment  Involve the community in all stages of planning, building, and maintenance (WaterAid, 2012)
