How to easily convert a degree measured in decimal degree (DD) form to degree-minute- second (DMS) form.

Example: Degrees Step 1 Step 1 Keep (“peel off”) the number to the left of the decimal; this number is the degree… Example: 81° Step 2 Step 2 Multiply what’s to the right of the decimal by 60… Example: 81° + (.654 x 60) = 81°

Step 3 Step 3 Again, keep (“peel off”) the number to the left of the decimal; this number is the minute… Example: 81°+ 39’ Step 4 Step 4 Once more, multiply what’s to the right of the decimal by 60; this number is the second… Example: 81°+ 39’ + (.24 x 60) = 81°39’ ”

Answer 81° 39’ 14”

How to easily convert a degree measured in degree-minute- second (DMS) form to decimal degree (DD) form.

Example: 47° 15’ 12” Step 1 Step 1 Leave the degree, the first number, unchanged… Example: 47° Step 2 Step 2 Multiply the minute, the 2 nd number, by 1/60 to convert it to degrees… Example: 15 x (1/60) = 0.25

Step 3 Step 3 Multiply the second, the 3 rd number, by 1/60 to convert it to minutes, and then again by 1/60 to convert it to degrees… Example: 12 x (1/60) x (1/60) = Step 4 Step 4 Add the products from (STEP 2 and STEP 3) together… Example: = 0.253

Step 5 Step 5 Add the sum of the products (from STEP 5) to the first unchanged number (from STEP 2)… Example: =
