Introduction Crossing Cultures (Békéscaba+ Portugal+Slovakia+England+Lithuania) What are the similarities and differences between these countries? Portugal – pubs closed during the day, opened after 9 p.m. Lithuania – pubs opened all day, young and wealthy people do not go to pubs England – opened all day, shut quite early around 1 a.m. Slovakia – opened all day, during the day terrace, night people move inside Békéscaba - during the day pub used by nearby neighbourhood, at night everybody goes there

Context Organization in the pub – Family business – 6 employees (4 family members) – Owned by family since 2007 – Since then they had 250 concerts so far – The only blues music pub in Hungary – Blues club is supported by 90 members – Fee for membership is 1000 forints/month – Opened from 7 a.m. till 3 a.m.

Context Enviroment and surroundings – Cosy and friendly enviroment – Separated smokers from non-smokers – “Blues music atmosphere” (photos of famous musicians, previous visits, events) – Interior is quite small but it brings people closer together – Programme, music

Research procedure Barriers and approaches – Language – Opening hours – Location – Ethical issues (permission to take pictures, for interview) – PARTY!!! yeaaaah

Observation and analysis Barriers and solutions to cohesion – Alcoholics, drug addicts No security guards Conflicts solved in a friendly way – Blues and drugs programme Promotion on website – Noise affecting the neighbourhood Screen in front the door – Selling alcohol to under aged teenagers Loosing profits Safer to drink in the place than on the street

Summary/our contribution/ideas for the future Pubs stimulate cohesion among various ages and well-being Learning about social skills, music Improving communication skills Promotion of integration and citizenship Under aged drinking Reducement of violance Economic, social and cultural symbiosis (working together)
