Epididymis: coiled structure located on the back side of each testes Penis: tube like organ that functions in both sexual reproduction and the elimination of urine Semen: mixture of sperm and secretions Vas Deferens: Tube that leads from the epididymis to the urethra Urethra: tube for urine and semen to leave the body
The Reproductive Glands The purpose of these glands is to add secretions that support the sperm as they move through the reproductive system. Concerns of the Male Reproductive System Nocturnal Emissions: ejaculations while a male is sleeping. -Relieve pressure -Also called “wet dreams” -Totally normal Hernia: occurs when an internal organ pushes through the wall of muscle that normally holds it in.
Male concerns continued… Sterility: the inability to produce offspring -problems with the sperm -overheating of the testes -exposure to certain chemicals -problems with the male reproductive organs STD’s: sexually transmitted diseases -certain STD’s can lead sterility by damaging the male reproductive system
Testicular Cancer -Main risk factor: undescended testes Signs and symptoms… A lump or enlargement of the testis Pain in the testis I found early the cure rate is very high. Self exams help with early detection.
Prostate Cancer 2 nd most common form of cancer in men Symptoms: -frequent or difficult urination -pain when urinating -blood in the urine -lingering pain in the back, hips or pelvis
