20 JAN 2016 BELL ACTIVITY: JOURNAL – Why did Buck want to be the team leader? What does wanting to be the team leader have to do with Buck’s life in California? Describe what kind of leader Buck makes. What are his team mates reaction to Buck as their new leader? What is Francois’ reaction? TODAY WE WILL LEARN….. …What happens to Buck and the rest of the team after Perrault &Francois …What Dave truly loves …Who the “Hairy Man” is.

TODAY YOU WILL NEED: YOUR COPY OF THE CALL OF THE WILD A PENCIL YOUR GLOSSARY VOCABULARY PAGE CHARACTER LIST/ LIST OF LAWS

1.Carefully reread the description of Buck’s fireside dreams, those full of the memories of his ancient ancestors. 2. Mark just the phrases that describe the “hairy man” who was the companion or master of Buck’s ancestors. 3. As you read and mark, try to visualize how he must have appeared. “Sometimes as he crouched there, blinking dreamily at the flames, it seemed that the flames were of another fire, and that as he crouched by this other fire he saw another and different man from the half-breed cook before him. This other man was shorter of leg and longer of arm, with muscles that were stringy and knotty rather than rounded and swelling. The hair of this man was long and matted, …

On the back of this page, do your best to draw the “hairy man” in pencil. This will help you to visualize the scene. This will be scored on whether or not you include the key attributes described, neatness and apparent effort. If you feel your drawing is less than clear, you may label those key attributes in your picture.
