Assessment Update September / October 2013

Moderation To establish the accuracy of practitioner judgements in line with national exemplification of standards Visits to 25% of schools and settings annually to have a professional dialogue 100% of schools and settings invited to Cluster Meetings which include Agreement Trialling and an element of Training

Reflection about moderation Has been sent out to schools and is also available on your tables on paper

Moderation Calendar Should help schools plan internal and cluster moderation so it does not clash with the statutory moderation! Clarifies the dates by which you should hear from us

2014 ARA for KS 2 is published Change to the access arrangements process. Still use NCA tools Note that there are now much tighter rules about reporting writing teacher assessments. The level agreed at moderation should be the level agreed at moderation. (ARA p15) Deadline for ordering papers is 29 th Nov….

Before you apply for access arrangements…….. Does the child achieve at or above average score for age on a test of writing speed? (DASH, Gym Trail) Is the child achieving at least level 3 on practice key stage 2 mathematics tests, with or without help reading the questions? When the child is writing independently, does s/he spell at least 75 per cent of words correctly and achieve at least level 3 on practice key stage 2 spelling tests?

Other KS 2 news Science sampling. 5 children from1900 schools nationally 3 papers from Monday 2 nd June. Dates negotiable No more calculators in maths tests until L6 Still 3 tests for maths for L3-5 and 2 for L is the final year of optional tests in yrs 3, 4 and 5

New National Curriculum Teachers should note that in the 2014 to 2015 academic year, pupils in years 2 and 6 should be taught the current programmes of study in English, mathematics and science. These pupils will sit the current key stage 1 and 2 tests respectively. New tests will be available from Englishmathematicsscience Source, Gov.uk

Progress between EYFS and end of KS 1 The early learning goals do not translate precisely to National Curriculum levels. However, as a broad rule of thumb children who reach a good level of development at the end of the Reception Year ought to be reaching at least Level 2b by end of Key Stage 1. Children exceeding the early learning goals at the end of reception ought to be exceeding Level 2b at the end of Key Stage 1 and be reaching Level 2a as a minimum, and more likely Level 3.’ Ofsted Subsidiary guidance: Supporting the inspection of maintained schools and academies from September 2013 v 3. no

EYFS ‘Development Matters’ has morphed into ‘Early years Outcomes’ (non Statutory)
