What are current trends? Our assessments don’t often tell us what a student really knows. Need to give students chances to show what they know (both strong and weaker ones) Important to use AoL, AfL and AaL Kids understand the purpose of assessment and discussion is assessment Kids in Kindergarten can demonstrate AaL 21st Century skills - important now

What are current trends? Transparency of teacher expectation and student thinking Feedback and practice (practice a dance) Quality feedback that leads to the next step (not doing just what the teacher says) Pedagogical documentation - making thinking visible Triangulation of sources Technology opens alternative ways of assessment (e,g, Clic, screencasting, Google Docs).

What are current trends? Change in assessment - change in instructional practice Change in assessment means change in instructional strategies Culture of caring Teachers have PLNs for personalised PD Collaborate with others – co teach, co-assess, Skype with other classrooms, support on twitter, PLCs in schools Inquiry goes hand-in-hand with teachers using AfL Constant teacher thinking – “what can I change?”
