Warm Up What is culture? How can culture be transferred? Get a chromebook. DO NOT open it yet. Think about the following questions and be prepared to share. What is culture? How can culture be transferred?

Set up your foldable What is Culture? What is Cultural Globalization? Positives of Cultural Globalization Negatives of Cultural Globalization

What is Culture? Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

What is Cultural Globalization? Cultural globalization refers to the transmission of ideas, meanings and values across world space. This process is marked by the common consumption of cultures that have been diffused by the Internet, popular culture, and international travel.

Positive Examples of Cultural Globalization Not all good practices were born in one civilization. The world that we live in today is a result of several cultures coming together. People of one culture, if receptive, tend to see the flaws in their culture and pick up values that are more appropriate for the times. Societies have become larger as they have welcomed people of other civilizations and backgrounds and created a whole new culture of their own.

Positive Examples of Cultural Globalization Cooking styles, languages, and customs have spread all due to globalization. The same can be said about movies, musical styles, and other art forms. Globalization has made us more conscious and tolerant of other's lifestyles and beliefs.

Negatives of Cultural Globalization Multinational corporations promote the same product all over the world, encouraging a similar lifestyle throughout the world (“Cola-Colinization”)  “Cultural imperialism”= Western Ideals are established as universal ways and traditions    Country's’ traditional foods lost to big fast food chains  Traditional clothing lost to big clothing brands

Globalization Through Time Log in to Google Classroom Open up the Cultural Globalization Webquest Read the instructions to each section and answer the questions. By the end of the webquest you should have a proper understanding of how culture has changed due to globalization
