3.4 Using Equations to Solve Problems Objective: To use the five-step plan to solve word problems. Warm – up: State three consecutive integers. State three consecutive odd integers. State four consecutive even integers.

3.4 Using Equations to Solve Problems Plan for Solving a Word Problem Step 1: Read the problem carefully Step 2: Choose a variable and use it with the given facts to represent the unknowns Step 3: Reread the problem and write an equation that represents the given situation Step 4: Solve the equation to find the unknowns asked for Step 5: Check your results and answer the problem (in a sentence!!) Practice!! The sum of 38 and twice a number is 124. Find the number.

3.4 Using Equations to Solve Problems When one third of a number is decrease by 11, the result is 38. Find the number. Find three consecutive integers who sum is 171.

3.4 Using Equations to Solve Problems You will now work on a worksheet that practices these type of problems. Your homework is to finish #1 – 7 from this worksheet. Pg. 113 Written Exercises #1 – 9 odd.
