Secondary Principal ’ s Report February 10 th, 2014

Mission Statement The mission of the Pender Public School District is to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all students to become productive and responsible citizens.

Winter Activity Review Dragon Flames – Participated in the Winter Wonderland dance Boone Central HS – 2 nd in Pom & 2 nd in Hip-Hop Wrestling – Good performance at the EHC Wrestling Tournament held in Oakland – Benny Oliver and Jacob Sebade placed 1 st. – Mark Dunn placed 2 nd. – Josh Davis placed 3 rd. – Leland Bowder, Devin Soll and Chris Kai placed 4 th. – Team placed 4 th. Boys Basketball – Boys continue to work hard – Setting personal/team performance goals – Current record stands at 1-19 Girls Basketball – 2-0 in conference play going into semi final round – Current record is 20-1

NeSA Testing Nebraska State Accountability testing in full swing. Testing windows are as follows: NeSA – Writing Jan. 20-Feb. 7 - complete NeSA – ELDA Feb. 10- March 21 - NeSA – Reading, Math, Science March 24-May 2 Teachers are preparing students now for success during the testing window.

ACT comes to PPS ~ Next ACT date in Pender is April 12 th ~ We are also giving the ACT with accommodations for those students who qualify on an individual basis. ~ Both of these opportunities are very helpful for our students.

WSC Practicum Students 2 special education practicum students 10 weeks 2 days/per week Split between 3 teachers Provide a GREAT experience for these 2 young ladies

Quiz Bowl Lost in first round of KTCH Radio Bowl in late January East Husker Conference Competition March 31 st Northeast Nebraska Quiz Bowl April 7 th Members are: – Caleb Jasa – Corbin Lamplot – Treyvor Vice – Will be adding one additional member

County Spelling Bee Will be held in Pender again this year Tuesday, Feb :30 p.m. Students participating from Walthill, Winnebago, Pender 7th grade finalists – Madison Marr, Kelcie Bartlett, Hannah Springer 8 th grade finalists – Will be determined on Tuesday Will bring you results next month

G.O.O.S.E. G.O.O.S.E. stands for Get Out of School Early I cover 1 st or 8 th period for the receiving teacher/paraprofessional Can cover the period after lunch for coaches/sponsors who cannot come late or leave early Given as recognition for a job well done GOOSE recipient this month is Tami Nelson Tami does an exceptional job with our special education students Giving so much of her time and effort Congratulations Tami!!

Mentoring Will be addressed as an agenda item this evening! I will continue to update the board regarding Teammates through my board report.

Backpack Program Have students in our district that our in need of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food for the weekends/vacations. Have been working with the local ministerium to meet our most obvious needs. Working with O-C personnel to gain information on their program
