United States= States Canada= Provinces/Territories  Why are the Mississippi River and the St. Lawrence River important? Transportation and economic growth Mississippi River in US; St. Lawrence River in Canada  Why and where is French spoken in Canada?

France colonized the Eastern part of Canada  What is the spreading of ideas called? Cultural Diffusion  What are results from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks? US involved in Middle East, Creation of Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, stereotyping of Middle Eastern people

 What are some examples of push factors? Pull factors? Push: Lack of career/job opportunities Pull: Improved education  Other than push/pull factors, what is another reason people move? Proximity, Mexicans move to Texas because it is close.  What causes urbanization?

Industrialization and pull factors: housing, education, etc.  Why are political lines redrawn? To rezone areas based on certain characteristics like population, political party, demographics, etc.  In a democracy like U.S., what causes public policy to change? People vote for tax increase based on needs of people

 What are the needs of a suburban area? What are the needs of an urban area? Suburban areas: drive more frequently and further distances, use less public transportation Urban areas: have more access to public transportation, usually drive small distances  What is the Triangular Trade? Who participated in the Triangular Trade? Trade between Europe, Africa, Americas: traded slaves, new world and old world products

 Where does United States and Canada fall along the economic spectrum?  What caused economic growth to United States and Canada? Manufacturing/industrialization, communication, transportation  What is the purpose of NAFTA?
