Final Concept Lead Filter Movement System Dennis Haasler EN-MEF-EBE

Principles: Structure Deflection Pulleys Structure (blue) that holds the Filters and the Counter Weight  U-beams (light blue) &  rect. Hollow profile (dark blue) Connection between both units is made with one steel rope that is guided over pulleys.  Always the same tension on both sides of the rope  No twisting of the filters The single layers will be connected to each other to increase the stiffness and so the stability of the support structure. U-beams Rect. Hollow Profile Filters Counter- Weight 16/01/2013Dennis Haasler – EN-MEF-EBE2

Principles: Bearing Filters Counter- Weight Linear movement both of the Filters and the Counter-Weight Filters:  1 loose linear bearing (right)  1 fixed linear bearing (left) Counter-Weight:  1 fixed linear bearing (right) Driving belt in the fixed linear bearing for the movement of the Filters Each linear bearing has two carriages Distance between them is as big as possible  Best support to prevent from rotation due to any turning moments. Fixed Linear Bearing + Driving Belt Carriages Loose Linear Bearing 16/01/2013Dennis Haasler – EN-MEF-EBE3

Filters Counter- Weight Principles: Miscellaneous Position of the drive for linear bearing Housing for the Counter-Weight The drive is positioned at the top position  does not lie in the radiation zone  Easy accessable  Filter layers are not interferring at this position Counter-Weight is protected by a housing  Motion system cannot be damaged  Detectors that are passing by cannot be damaged 16/01/2013Dennis Haasler – EN-MEF-EBE4

Motion System: Top View Sketch Source BP 1.30m 0.70m 1.50m 0.50m 0.80m 4.80m Support structure & counterweights Two positions of the Source: 1.Next to the beam pipe:  For a good overlapping of source and muon beam 2.Far away from the beam pipe:  When the beam pipe is installed  Bigger radiation area, BP is not going through the middle of the radiation zone.  Less scattering through the BP The red area is dedicated to the positioning system of the source. Two rails will be installed in this zone. Additionally, the whole unit is partly underneath the false floor level: => Red area also indicates a gap in the floor 16/01/2013Dennis Haasler – EN-MEF-EBE7
