A2 Practical Coursework PHED 4

Overview 20% Section A – assessment as a performer in one activity (fully competitive situation) 60 marks 20% Section B – Analysis of own or others weaknesses 30 marks Section C – Identification of causes / corrective measures30 marks

Section B & C Aim is to assess your ability to identify weaknesses in performance, make comparisons to an elite performer, suggest possible causes for the weakness and show corrective practices. Area of Assessment 1 (Attacking) Area of Assessment 2 (Defending) Area of Assessment 3 (Tactics and strategies)

Outline Each Area of Assessment requires 2 weaknesses, therefore you will need 6 weaknesses in total. E.g. 2 attacking, 2 defensive, 2 tactics Throughout the six weaknesses, you must have included a weakness on at least 4 of the core skills E.g. Netball core skills – 1.passing 2.footwork 3.shooting 4. getting free 5. marking

Section B B1 Self analysis Identify your own weakness in relation to the perfect model Preparation / Execution / Result E.g Bowling, length of delivery is inconsistent B2 Comparison to an Elite Performer Make comparisons to the elite performer

Section C (see example sheet of practical ideas) C1 Cause for each weakness identified in B1 E.g. Bowling, Associative phase of learning, height of release varies State what the cause it is and why chosen it Include theory on that topic, use textbooks (internet too broad, be specific to A 'level course) C2 Corrective measure for the cause identified Massed practice concentrating on point of release, linked with visual and verbal guidance. Explain how you are going to use the corrective measure.

Points to remember Must have at least one theoretical aspect from AS and one from A2 theory Need high level of technical detail – start researching using internet, coaching manuals and find out as much detail on all coaching points, subroutines and advanced technical details. Use technical language Relate the theory back to the weakness

Apply the theory Remember to discuss how the weakness impacts on your performance Find relevant theoretical explanation of causes which link to the weakness identified Pick a cause that has sufficient theory to write about Corrective measure needs to apply the relevant theory to solve the weakness

Important to note… 6 different causes and corrections must be linked to 6 different aspects of the specification (repetition will result on 0 marks) E.g. if you use circuit training to improve muscular endurance, you cannot use it again to prevent fatigue in another weakness.

Timescale Use the summer term and holiday time to complete this. Hand in first draft in September. Aim to finish November/December Advantages -Completed early -Plenty of time for feedback and improvements -Time to send a sample to the moderator Disadvantages -Not much of the A2 theory has been completed. You will need to research this using the textbook and with guidance from your teachers.

Planning Use the template provided to plan an outline of your coursework… Correct technical modelWeaknessesElite PerformerTheoretical CauseCorrective measure 1. Get started Once you have planned an outline for your 6 weaknesses use the template to type in your information…

Remember This is worth half of your practical grade, 20% of the course Use the resources in the PE classroom and look at the example work that is available
