Save General Brock Parkland

Agenda (7:00 –9:00 p.m.) Mission Statement – why we are here How will losing this parkland affect me? What does our community need? Where are we at now? Goals: together we can make a difference Future directions Q & A Working Together

Mission Statement Our goal is to form a strong united community group to represent all the users of the General Brock Parkland and to take action to preserve our parkland space.

How will losing the parkland affect me? Dramatically increased traffic & safety issues for our children Loss of soccer & baseball fields that are in high demand Property values go down A lot more people and a lot less greenspace in what is an already crowded area Increased school populations Environmental impact – loss of wildlife habitat More people, more noise, more congestion, lower quality of life

Proposed Agreement We, the undersigned request that council support our recommendation to acquire the General Brock property and work with the members of the community for an agreed upon period (three years) to determine a future use of the property that best meets the interests of the community and maximizes the area’s irreplaceable green space.

What does our community need? Green space…. our common ground

It’s OUR Mid-Peninsula Highway! Why does city staff not have a vision for this property and the other remaining green spaces in our city? Why are we as community citizens expected to compete with developers to propose solutions for our community spaces…do we not pay city planners & staff to do this on our behalf? Where are our leaders? Do we not elect our councillors to listen, support & take action to represent the community’s best interests?

Where are we at now? Awareness campaign (flyers, signs, press, t.v. coverage) Sharing of concerns (letters, calls & s) Presentations (Soccer council, representation at Tuck tonight & this gathering!) Meeting our Sept 17 goals….

Goals…together we CAN make a difference! TONIGHT…. To have each individual sign a petition To have each individual purchase a lawn sign To have each individual write a letter to the appropriate people on their opinions and wishes for the parkland Get involved and sign up to volunteer in any way you can…every little bit helps! ….without additional volunteers this effort will die

Future directions…. Keep the momentum going... for our children’s sake… Election considerations Fund Raising and awareness campaign Connections to interest support groups such as the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Soccer Council etc. who could support a significant, high profile project that would really make a positive difference in the Burlington community! Explore eligible funding opportunities such as the Trillium Foundation. ……and so much more

Q & A Comments from our ward councilor Comments from our Mayor Your comments & questions

Closing words & giving thanks… Let’s work together…. Go to the tables & meet tonight’s goals!

Let’s work together 1 table to purchase lawn signs $ table to sign petitions 1 table to have you fill out your comments that we/or you can deliver to City Hall 1 table asking you to sign up to help & to provide contact information so we can continue to work together. 4 Tables have been set

Thank You Roseland Tennis Club! Together we can make a difference!
