Tangrams Step by Step

Draw a square with sides of length 12cm Mark the centre of each side. Now cut carefully along the lines to make your 7-piece Tangram

Tangrams Now use the seven pieces of your Tangram to make: An isosceles triangle A rectangle A parallelogram An isosceles trapezium A hexagon

Answers – Watch carefully Isosceles Triangle How can we be sure it is isosceles? What else can you say about this triangle?

Rectangle How do you know it is a rectangle?

Parallelogram How can we be sure that it is a parallelogram?

Isosceles Trapezium

How can we be sure that this is definitely an isosceles trapezium?

Hexagon – not so straight forward! Is it a regular hexagon? Why?

Using all seven pieces of your Tangram, can you make each of the following shapes?

Answers – How well did you do?

Need help? Here are some solutions to help you.
