8-6: Trapezoids

Definitions Trapezoid-a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. Bases-the parallel sides Legs-the sides that are not parallel. Base angles- the angles formed by one of the bases and the legs.

Isosceles Trapezoid Definition-a trapezoid in which the legs are congruent. Properties –Both pairs of base angles are congruent. –The diagonals are congruent.

Given A(-4,3), B(2,5), C(8,0), and D(-4, -4)… Is quadrilateral ABCD a trapezoid? Is quadrilateral ABCD an isosceles trapezoid?

Median Definition-the segment connecting the midpoint of both legs of a trapezoid. Also called a midsegment (remember triangles) Properties –Parallel to bases –Median=½ * the sum of the bases

Given trapezoid NCSU answer these questions. 1. CS=15 and NU=33 2. AB=25 and CS=14, find AB. find NU.

Given trapezoid NCSU is isosceles, answer these questions. 3. m<NCS=3a+32.5 and m<CNU=4a-10, find a.

Given trapezoid NCSU is isosceles, answer these questions. 4. m<CNU=4x and m<CAB=3x+9. Find m<CSU.

5. In this isosceles trapezoid, find x.
