8-6: Trapezoids
Definitions Trapezoid-a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. Bases-the parallel sides Legs-the sides that are not parallel. Base angles- the angles formed by one of the bases and the legs.
Isosceles Trapezoid Definition-a trapezoid in which the legs are congruent. Properties –Both pairs of base angles are congruent. –The diagonals are congruent.
Given A(-4,3), B(2,5), C(8,0), and D(-4, -4)… Is quadrilateral ABCD a trapezoid? Is quadrilateral ABCD an isosceles trapezoid?
Median Definition-the segment connecting the midpoint of both legs of a trapezoid. Also called a midsegment (remember triangles) Properties –Parallel to bases –Median=½ * the sum of the bases
