EDIRNE SULEYMAN DEMIREL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL Our school is located in the district of Karaağaç, Edirne. It is a state-owned, co-ed high school with a special focus on science and mathematics. Science high schools all around Turkey choose their students through a central examination after the 8th grade. There is only one science high school in every city in Turkey. All science high schools are boarding schools and provide 4- year education. Teachers of science high school also sit for a written and oral examination to become permanent staff.

EDIRNE SULEYMAN DEMIREL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY Edirne Süleyman Demirel Science High School was founded in 1994 and started teaching in the facilities of another school in Edirne before the construction of its own building. It was originally called Edirne Science High School. In 1999, it was named after the ex-president of Turkey Mr. Süleyman Demirel for his contributions to the school.

There are four grades in our school: 9th Grade : freshman 10th Grade: sophomore 11th Grade: junior 12th Grade: senior

 There are 24 students in each classroom.  There are 4 classes in each grade.  So our school registers 96 new students in the 9th Grade each year.  There are totally 16 classes in our school.  This year the total number of our students is 361.  The total number of female students is 155.  The total number of male students is 206.  There are totally 170 students living in the school’s dormitory.( 64 girls – 106 boys) Our School In Numbers

EDIRNE SULEYMAN DEMIREL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL The courses they take include: Mathematics, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, PE, Turkish Language and Literature, Philosophy, Democracy and Human Rights, English. The students’ attendance to school is compulsory. They attend school 5 days a week from Monday to Friday. The school has 32 permanent staff.

EDIRNE SULEYMAN DEMIREL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL PERSONAL STUDY In the evening there is a special study program, which is compulsory for the boarding students from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to p.m. under the supervision of two assigned teachers. EDIRNE SULEYMAN DEMIREL SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL AND STUDENT PRESIDENCY Believing in that students will learn democracy better through experience, our school gives great importance to student council and student presidency. Our students hold elections every year to elect the members of the Student Council and their President. The student president and the student council take active part in designing some social events at the school. This year there have been two candidates in the elections.
