Reading Curriculum Wonders– phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, vocabulary, sight vocabulary Guided Reading Small Groups– small group instruction focusing on specific reading needs

Math Curriculum Engage NY– teaches math in an everyday context with a big emphasis on exploration and discovery, while developing strong number sense

Writing Curriculum Wonders Writing Program 5 Star Writing: 1.There is a detailed picture with a character and setting. 2.Handwriting is neat with good spacing. 3.There is a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence. 4.There is a period at the end of each sentence. 5.Words have beginning and ending sounds. *** Please know that we will use invented spelling based on sounds … WORDS MAY NOT BE SPELLED CORRECTLY AND THAT’S OK!

Specials / Academies P.E. Science Music Art Library * One hour blocks from 1:40-2:40. Varying schedule week by week. * Please make sure your child has gym shoes everyday!

Parent Involvement We are always looking for classroom volunteers. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are interested in volunteering. *DVE volunteers must attend a PTO volunteer orientation and pay $6.85 for a background check. *1 st training is Friday, September 4 at 3:00

Homework We will send homework home every Monday-Thursday. Homework is meant to be done by the student and extend what we are working on in the classroom. Nightly Reading log will start going home in September.

Imperative Info Parents are not allowed down the hallways after 8:40 in the morning. (letting your child come in on their own will allow them to become more independent) AM drop off ~ Double Doors After 8:45 your kiddo will need to go in through the front office and get a tardy pass Pick-up ~ Fenced Area
