Notes # 5 Taking Over

Protectorate Independent country that is under the control of another country. Cuba is a protectorate.

Territories An area that is completely controlled by another country. Puerto Rico and Guam.

Cuban Protectorate Full Independence: 1901 Platt amendment: Prevented Cuba from making treaties with other nations, other than the U.S. They give us a naval base, Guantanamo Bay.
