OSGOODE SCHLATTER’S DISEASE

At the end of every large muscle group we have a Traction Ephysis. A Traction Ephysis is a growth plate. Excessive use of the muscle may cause a separation or irritation of the growth plate.

Activity irritates (more painful). Local temperature increase. Painful to compress or squeeze Rest reduces pain. Medical referral required. Return to activity when pain- free.

HAMSTRING STRAIN  Stretch plus contraction is the mechanism of injury for any muscle.  Criteria for assessment.

 Stretch, Strength, Palpation, Girth.  Grade II Strain states that there is a 50% decrease in stretch, significant decrease in strength, pain on palpation.

PALPATION Straight Leg Raise

What is a normal SLR? Whatever the other side does! Grade II.. At about 50% of the range of the opposite side the athlete would say that they feel something in the muscle.

QUADRICEPS CONTUSION Quad is pinched between two hard surfaces; the femur and an external hard object (knee).

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ABDOMINALS AND SHOULDER PROBLEMS. (Do not need to know!)
