Fantastic Mr Fox Presentation shown and written by Orla Egleston

Introduction Introduction I chose the film Fantastic Mr Fox to do my project on because: All of the effort and detail put into this particular film that made the film just look incredible. Me and my family love this film so much I had my 7 th birthday party at my house based on the film Fantastic Mr Fox. We even made food to go with the party too!

These are the ginger apple snaps we made for the party! Just like in the film! Our ginger apple snaps The film’s ginger apple snaps.

How was the film made? Wes Anderson used stop motion animation to create the film. Each tiny movement is individually photographed. Then all the pictures put together in sequence. The team who made the film Fantastic Mr Fox used a range of sets of houses and fields. Even a town block where farmers bring war to Life when they attempt to kill the foxes, as well as badgers, rabbits and moles. They made lots of different Sets and puppets. It took 29 different sets to fill the whole movie with pure pleasure.

Fantastic Mr Fox is based on the book by Roald Dahl. The film extends the story making it so exciting with extra characters and adventures. Wes Anderson worked with Roald Dahl’s wife Liccy to keep the film in the same style as the book. He added special little details to his film that he discovered when visiting Roal Dahl’s house such the items on Mr Fox’s desk like his mug of pens and his sweet wrapper foil ball being the same as on Roald Dahl’s desk. I found out lots of interesting facts about how the film was made from this book:

Something you might not know: Jarvis Cocker did the voice and songs for the character Petey and Wes Anderson decided to use his car (station wagon) in the film. We were ever so pleased when Jarvis’ sister asked us to look after his car! Here we are in Jarvis’ car:

Finding out about making a stop motion animation To find out more about the stop motion animation process I decided to make a short film. We started by making our own fox puppets. We used old wood and wire doll bodies that were bendy, my mum showed me how to make a clay fox head for each body. We stuck fur fabric to the body and head and used gold pins dipped in black paint for eyes. We used doll clothes to dress the foxes. Altogether, 535 puppets were made for the Wes Anderson film. Mr. Fox had 17 different styles (looks) alone, and each of Mr. Fox's styles had to be done in six different sizes. He has 102 puppets of Fantastic Mr Fox by himself because he is the main character so, he needs a lot of different costumes as well. It took 7 months to perfect the very first Mr. Fox puppet. It took me and my mum about 3 days to make both of my fox puppets but that is because we made simple puppets and Wes used much more detail in his puppets.

Next I found some things I’d like to use for the set. I chose some bark, twigs and my mum made some tiny autumn leaves so my foxes could be in a wood scene. I painted a backdrop in the same colours the film uses; autumn yellow, red and orange. My mum helped me set up the wood and my dad showed me how to use the stop animation app on the ipad.

When it came to making my film my sister was a big help taking the shots while I moved the characters. So you can see I got everyone involved in this project! It was a fiddly job moving the characters a little bit each time but I got the hang of it. It took me about 2 hours to make a 40 second film. Fantastic Mr Fox is composed of almost 56,000 shots. My film is 211 shots! I chose a track from the soundtrack to fantastic Mr fox and my dad added it to my film.

Fantastic Mr Fox extras In the DVD of Wes Andersen’s Fantastic Mr Fox there is a little package called extra’s and there you will find out about how Wes made the film.

Thank you for reading! I Hope you all enjoyed watching my PowerPoint on Fantastic Mr Fox and I also hope that you enjoyed my stop motion animation!
