May 2013

 To help facilitate accessing CareNotes  To facilitate linking patient education and information to the electronic medical record

Open any screen in Soarian Clinicals, this can be on Orders, Plan of Care, Clinical Summary, CFS, Assessments, Patient Record. Right click on any term Select “Care Notes” from the menu This will launch you into CareNotes where you can select the item you wish to view/print Right click on the term you wish to print. If the term you need is within a drop down list in Soarian, double click to select the term Once printed, the document is sent to the Patient Record, under Clinical Documentation in Patient Education where is it stored within the patient’s EMR Documents will need to be printed and given to the patient but a copy will no longer need to be scanned into Soarian.

NOTE: In some cases, to narrow the search it is beneficial to “highlight” the term and then right click.

 Be careful when selecting a term in a pulldown list that is not one you want to select on the assessment; right clicking will select that item. You may need to go back and deselect it.  Prior to printing a document, make certain that it displays the correct patient information in the header.  If viewing information in CareNotes or Micromedex just for your own information, do not right click within a patient record. Use the desktop link to access the software.  Accessing information within a patient’s record will link that information to the patient’s EMR.  Accessing information within a patient’s record will include patient information in the header.

 If previewing the document, the print button may be grayed out. If that happens, close the preview window and you will have access to the print button.  To print a document you will need to select a language before you can print/preview.  When you try to preview and do not see the PDF document, it may have collapsed into your task bar at the bottom of your screen.

 ***VERY IMPORTANT***To close the CareNotes/Micromedex window DO NOT click the in the upper right corner. This may cause one patient’s information to be linked to another patient’s EMR.  You can access Carenotes by Right Clicking on words in the Patient Record, Clinical Summary, CFS, Charting (assessments, Interventions, Meds/IVs, Home Med List) Plan of Care, Orders (any orders, Discharge Med Reconciliation)

 You cannot access CareNotes by right clicking in Critical Care documentation or in MAK Med Administration.  If there is no match for your term search, click on Keyword Search and type other words for a customized search:

 Hot List Key: Under development but does contain key education handouts for a few topics. Checking more than one handout will enable several handouts to print at the same time in addition to filing the education in the patient record. COMING SOON – new hotlist topics under construction!  If patient education is erroneously filed under the wrong patient, contact HIM as soon as possible to remove the file from the medical record.
