6 DAYS?

GOD’S BOOK VS. MAN’S SCIENTIFIC THEORY  Do you believe the days of Genesis 1 are literal 24 hour days or perhaps eons of time?  Many try to harmonize God’s word with modern scientific theory to keep from looking ignorant.

CREATION TOOK 6 DAYS.  The Hebrew word yom

YOM Strongs H3117 Blueletterbible.org Transliteration yowm Pronunciation yōm (Key) Part of Speech masculine noun Root Word (Etymology) From an unused root meaning to be hot Dictionary Aids TWOT Reference: 852 Outline of Biblical Usage 1.day, time, year 1.day (as opposed to night) 2.day (24 hour period) 1.as defined by evening and morning in Genesis 1 2.as a division of time 1.a working day, a day's journey 3.days, lifetime (pl.) 4.time, period (general) 5.year 6.temporal references 1.today 2.yesterday 3.tomorrow

YOM  “Back in my grandfather’s day, it took 12 days to drive across the country during the day.” Cf. Genesis 2:4 A number and the phrase “evening and morning” are used with each of the six days of creation (Gen. 1:5, 8, 13, 19,23, 31).Gen. 1: Outside Genesis 1, yom is used with a number 359 times, and each time it means an ordinary day. Why would Genesis 1 be the exception? Outside Genesis 1, yom is used with the word “evening” or “morning” 23 times. “Evening” and “morning” appear in association, but without yom, 38 times. All 61 times the text refers to an ordinary day. Why would Genesis 1 be the exception? Answersingenesis.org

YOM Albert Barnes on Genesis 1:5 “The days of this creation are natural days of twenty-four hours each. We may not depart from the ordinary meaning of the word without a sufficient warrant either in the text of Scripture or in the law of nature. But we have not yet found any such warrant. Only necessity can force us to such an expedient. Scripture, on the other hand, warrants us in retaining the common meaning by yielding no hint of another, and by introducing "evening, night, morning, day," as its ordinary divisions. Nature favors the same interpretation.”

CREATION TOOK 6 DAYS.  The Hebrew word yom  The explanation of the Sabbath

THE EXPLANATION OF THE SABBATH  Exodus 20:8-11  The rationale for the Sabbath Day is given.  6 times “day” is used, twice in reference to creation.  We have to change the meaning of the word within the context to make eons of time out of those creation days.  Exodus 31:12-17

CREATION TOOK 6 DAYS.  The Hebrew word yom  The explanation of the Sabbath  Other clear Bible teaching

OTHER CLEAR BIBLE TEACHING  Psalm 33:6-9  Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female. Cf. Matthew 19:4  Luke 11:50-51

GENESIS 1-11 IS TREATED AS HISTORY  Genesis 1 and 2 ; Jesus in (Matthew 19:4–6; Mark 10:6–9).  Genesis 2–3; Paul in Romans 5:12–19; 1 Corinthians 15:20–22, 45– 47; 2 Corinthians 11:3; and 1 Timothy 2:13–14.  The death of Abel recorded in Genesis 4 ; Jesus in Luke 11:51.  The Flood (Genesis 6–9); Jesus (Matthew 24:37–39; and Peter (2 Peter 2:4–9, 3:6)  Luke 17:26–29, Jesus mentioned the Flood in the same context as he did the account of Lot and Sodom (Genesis 19).  Luke’s genealogy of Christ, he includes 20 names found in the genealogies of Genesis 5 and 11 (Luke 3:34–38).

WHERE DOES IT STOP? DOES IT MATTER?  Was the flood universal or localized?  Genesis 6:17; 7:17, 19, 21; 2 Peter 3:5-7,  Virgin birth?  Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23  Jonah  Matthew 12:40  Can we trust what Jesus says in John 3:14-16? Cf. Numbers 21

CHARLES SPURGEON, BAPTIST PREACHER We are invited, brethren, most earnestly to go away from the old-fashioned belief of our forefathers because of the supposed discoveries of science. What is science? The method by which man tries to conceal his ignorance. It should not be so, but so it is. You are not to be dogmatical in theology, my brethren, it is wicked; but for scientific men it is the correct thing. You are never to assert anything very strongly; but scientists may boldly assert what they cannot prove, and may demand a faith far more credulous than any we possess. Forsooth, you and I are to take our Bibles and shape and mould our belief according to the evershifting teachings of so-called scientific men. What folly is this! Why, the march of science, falsely so called, through the world may be traced by exploded fallacies and abandoned theories. Former explorers once adored are now ridiculed; the continual wreckings of false hypotheses is a matter of universal notoriety. You may tell where the learned have encamped by the debris left behind of suppositions and theories as plentiful as broken bottles
